What Clients Specify - And What We Supply

This page is for companies hiring an inspection firm. Are you an inspector looking for work? See our current openings.

Inspection scopes across Canada are written in a consistent vocabulary. Owners, EPC contractors and fabricators name the same certifications, the same codes and the same turnover documents in almost every scope. This page sets out those requirements plainly and states what Taguchi Inspection Services supplies against each one, so a QA manager can check us off against a scope of work without a phone call.

  • CSA W47.1 / W47.2 - verifying the fabricator holds certification and is working within their division.
  • CSA W178.2 - the standard the Level 2 visual inspector qualification is issued under.
  • ASME Section IX - welding procedure and welder performance qualification.
  • ASME B31.1 and B31.3 - power piping and process piping.
  • ASME Section VIII - pressure vessel construction.
  • AWS D1.1 - where the project is specified to the American structural code.
  • API 510 / 570 / 653 - in-service vessel, piping and tank inspection.
  • ABSA - pressure equipment requirements in Alberta, including AB-83 quality management.
Documentation and turnover deliverables

These are the documents named in scopes of work. Our inspectors produce them as the work happens, not reconstructed at the end of the job.

  • Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) - prepared or worked to, with hold, witness and review points agreed before the work starts.
  • WPS, PQR and welder performance qualification review - verified against the code the project is specified to, before production welding.
  • Welder continuity and logbook records - maintained where the fabricator certification requires it.
  • Weld maps and traceability records - weld numbers tied to welder, procedure, heat number and NDE result.
  • NDE requests and evaluation - RT, UT, MT and PT coordinated with the testing contractor, indications evaluated and reported.
  • Material certification (MTR) verification - material received checked against what was specified and qualified.
  • Non-conformance reports - raised, tracked and closed out with corrective action recorded.
  • Daily inspection reports - issued the day the work happened.
  • Test packages, data books and turnover packages - compiled in the format your document control or regulator requires.
  • Support for regulatory and client audits - the inspector who did the work is available to walk an auditor through the record.
How the work is actually staffed
  • Shutdown and turnaround season - coverage held across a fixed window, rostered so the seat is filled on day one.
  • Twelve-hour day and night shifts - night coverage is quoted in the rate, not added afterwards.
  • Shop and field - resident or visit-based surveillance at the fabricator, and field construction QA/QC on site.
  • Short-notice mobilisation - send the scope, site and dates; you get availability and a rate the same day.
  • Independent of the contractor - we are third party. We report to you, and we have no commercial relationship with the fabricator or the welding contractor.
  • Prequalification systems - registrations, insurance certificate and WCB clearance are on the credentials page and issued in whatever format your portal wants.
