Taguchi Inspection Services supplies CWB Level 2 certified welding inspectors to Calgary and southern Alberta. Calgary is where a great deal of Canadian energy work is bought rather than built — owner and EPC engineering teams here award fabrication that gets welded somewhere else entirely, and then need somebody independent to go and look at it.
We supply that inspector. This is a manpower supply business: a named, certified inspector, current tickets, and a rate you can put into a purchase order the same day you ask.

CWB Level 2 visual welding inspectors
CSA W178.2 Level 2 — certified to inspect independently, interpret the code, accept or reject a weld, and sign the report that goes into your turnover package.
Single inspector or roster fill
One inspector for a two-week shop job, or coverage held across a turnaround window. Day shift, night shift, or rotation.
Short-notice mobilisation
Call with a start date. You get availability and a rate the same day, not a week later once a proposal has been through three approvals.
Tickets current, ready to badge
H2S Alive, CSTS-2020, OSSA/BSO, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Ground Disturbance, First Aid, fit test and current drug and alcohol. Copies sent before mobilisation.
Where our inspectors work in the Calgary area
- Vendor and fabrication surveillance on behalf of Calgary owners and EPCs — we attend the shop wherever it is, work to your ITP, and report to you, not to the fabricator.
- Foothills, Shepard and southeast industrial fabrication — structural steel, pressure piping and skid assembly to CSA W59, W47.1 and ASME B31.3.
- Balzac, Airdrie and Rocky View shops supplying the energy and construction sectors.
- Module and skid packages inspected before they ship, which is the last cheap moment to find a problem.
Mobilisation and logistics
Calgary is about three hours south of our Edmonton office. Day trips are routine; longer engagements are quoted with travel and accommodation stated up front rather than appearing on an invoice later.
- Single-visit hold and witness points — you do not have to buy a resident inspector to get a signature at the right moment.
- Multi-shop days where several vendors in the same area need attention on one trip.
- Reporting to a Calgary desk while the steel is in a shop somewhere else — daily reports issued the day the work happened.
- Southern Alberta reach — Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat quoted on the same basis.
Codes our inspectors work to
- CSA W59 — welded steel construction, the acceptance criteria most Canadian structural welds are judged against.
- CSA W47.1 — verifying the fabricator holds certification and is working within their division.
- CSA W178.2 — the standard the Level 2 qualification itself is issued under.
- ASME B31.3 and Section IX — process piping, and welding procedure and performance qualification.
- AWS D1.1 — where the project is specified to the American structural code.
- ABSA requirements — for pressure equipment work in Alberta.

- Tickets, certificate copies, insurance certificate and WCB clearance are sent before mobilisation, in whatever format your prequalification system wants.
- Daily inspection reports are issued the day the work happened, not batched at the end of the job.

Do you have a Calgary office?
No. Our offices are Delta, British Columbia and Edmonton, Alberta, and inspectors mobilise to Calgary from Edmonton. We would rather tell you that than invent a local address.
Can you inspect at a vendor outside Alberta for us?
Yes. Vendor surveillance across BC, Alberta and Ontario is normal work. Tell us where the shop is and it gets priced as one mobilisation.
Are you independent of the fabricators you inspect?
Yes. We are third party and hold no commercial relationship with the shops we inspect, which is the entire point of hiring us instead of taking their word for it.
